This project uses video to track motion. The focus was to depict people movements and transform this into geometry, The system is used as a design informer for the creation of space. As people move through space, the personal space that surrounds them changes. The prototype was installed in the workshop space (IIAC Institute for Advanced Architecture of Catalunia) of SmartGeometry2010.

For the project a camera was installed right above the Smart Geometry workshop area to record the motion generated by the occupants. Not the video was recorded, but the motions were, using frame-differencing technology that is available for Processing. Larger clusters of motion were grouped together, so that they captured the movements of a single person. Every cluster in motion was a value assigned related to the speed at which it translated. This data was fed to GC using UbiMash. In GC a triangulation algorithm was used to produce a 3D sample geometry.

It has 3 steps.

Getting tweets from a defined location through the latitude and longitude. Then, we track two longest word from each tweet.
We search two longest word in Flickr api. It’s a live twitter visualization through the flickr.

It’s a live responsive visual insight into twitter activtiy across urban spaces. By matching messages in space with machine extracted
terms, we created new visual understanding for the city carteography.

SPACE FOR EVERYBODY

the new space elevator

HAARP (HIGH FREQUENCY ACTIVE AURORAL RESEARCH PROGRAM)
A WEAPON OR THE FUTURE OF SCIENCE ?

“The most powerful electromagnetic weapon!” The conspiracy theorists would say about HAARP. However it is true that HAARP can stimulate the ionosphere to create anything from direct current to visible light.
There are 72 feet long 180 silver poles cultivated on an 30 acre land in Alaska and they emit 3.6 Megawatts of high frequency radio signals through the strange plasma of ionosphere.
By accelerating electrons and heating the most powerful layer of atmosphere, this technology could be used for extreme communication, nuclear protection, intense surveillance and climate conditioning. It can also create artificial aurora borealis “the northern lights” which are caused by the particles spread by electromagnetic storms of the sun hitting the thermosphere.

THE OLD CONCEPT

The elevator rising into space is based on the system of a cable that extends from the ground of the Earth near the equator to geostationary orbit and a heavy asteroid to act as a counterweight on other end. On this cable reaching out 36000 kilometres, a climber will carry materials and people into the future space structures.
Cost of sending 1 kg into space with a space shuttle is 20000 $. With the space elevator 2000 $.

<a href="http://yeltakom.info/?attachment_id=70"rel="attachment wp-att-70" >

CARBON NANOTUBE FOR SPACE ELEVATOR ?

“Strongest and stiffest material yet discovered”
“300 times stronger than high carbon steel”
“Can carry 1000 times greater electric current density than copper”
“It will be cheap in the near future”

The magnetic field around a current carrying wire is fairly weak, however, a practical straw and paper-clip experiment winds that fire into a coil to concentrate and strengthen its field. As paper-clip been put inside the straw by the created magnetic field.
By heating or using an electromagnetic stimulator (battery) the gas in the tube is ionized. Further stimulation turns gas into a plasma, containing charged particles, ions and negative electrons. By implementing proper electrodes into the plasma tube, it can be used as a battery.

THE NEW SPACE ELEVATOR

A helix will extend above 180 km into the ionosphere and the plasma will be stimulated to concentrate charged particles. A circuit will be created by using the potential difference and the condenser surfaces will canalize the potential directly into the circuit. The circuit loop involves one arm rising 180 km in circles at intervals of 10 meters and the other, which will also work for the system structural stability, rises at intervals of 10 km.
To prevent the wobble effect which will likely to occur by inner electromagnetic forces and global winds, helium inflatable structures will be positioned at determined intervals. The spiral inflatable structures will be set at intervals of 10 km with the help of geodetic sensors and active stabilization systems, the spiral structures will counter act to local forces by pneumatic propulsion. Thus the main axis of the helix will be kept stable.
Slider elements on the bottom will turn the inflatable structures into mobile platforms which can climb up and down through the helix, providing maintenance
Cost of sending 1 kg into space with the new space elevator is 20 $.

However, the city is a “changing times sequence” which moves altogether with its own time soul and according to the needs of city dwellers and their essential requirements.

1st Prize – with Erdem Tüzün

Thanks to Busra Al

During the mankind’s history, the plazas and public spaces have been the stage of municipality’s prestige projects, power elite’s ground and also the signs of politicial decisions taken by competent power without considering the real city dwellers at all. The public space has always been shaped by the decisions of external powers.

Even the basic, naive city designment projects and public space projects have been shaped by the politicial powers of that time. Historicism in terms of design decisions has been dignified as a generical attack and also individual or ideological attacks have been given more importance than the city dwellers and the city’s essential requirements itself. However, contrary to some assumptions the others have the city is not in a passive location on which everybody can utter something or eveybody can take a decision. By contrast with, the city is in a location in which creates its own fiction, an active system having the power of reducing to absurdity, making even a monumental production totally meaningless.

Even though sometimes the city may seem to accept the utterings and the ideals on which has been said on behalf of itself; the time makes it possible for the city to find itself by converting all these ideals and utterings to total mistakes and dead-ends. Every single wrong decision will eventually come to the city’s agenda as a crucial problem which needs to be solved at once.

Today, the biggest mistake which is still being done is the effort of intervention to the city with a totally external point of view. However, the city is a “changing times sequence” which moves altogether with its own time soul and according to the needs of city dwellers and their essential requirements.

Today, the correct and well-balanced intervention to a city is a fictionalizing a system in which the city dwellers constitute the most important part of this organism and an creating a mechanism which are open to all potentials and facilities. The city should be purified from all individual, personal and ideological discourses and registers at once. The city should be converted into a condition which answers the city’s dwellers needs as soon as possible.

The city is wholistic and integral. The roads, the structures, the spaces and of course the people are the parts of this wholism. When there is an intervention to the city, all these elements interact in the end. The consequence of all those attacks influence this internal dynamism. For instance, a decision which is taken on behalf of a road will not only affect this mentioned road but also all this operational mechanism.

The thing to be suggested as a place like Kızılay Meydanı which has been exposed to many interventions During the history; must be a total, multi –level and interactive solution shaped by the city dwellers’s essential needs. The solution which has been suggested must belong to this place. A system, which does not only watch and stays at a passice location but also takes action must be shaped as soon as possible. A mechanism which determines its own essential requirements and behaves according to these needs must be shaped at short notice, immediately.

For this purpose, a dynamic and movable topography, which dissolves itself around the four corners of place. Below and above of this place, there are public spaces. This mentioned topography will convert itself to a square of which from different levels of society meet, rest, socialize, read their books, find the oppurtunity to express themselves democratically.

The form which has been attained in this systematic will not be the final form never and ever. It just will be a mechanism which changes through time, gives different reactions according to the relationship with the city dweller. It also will be a mechanism whose functions dissolved, be transmitted to each other. Everyone, who lives in the city, all the city dwellers will not only take something from this mechanism but also they contribute to this system. All in all; a mechanism in which Everyone can attend and reach up will prolong itself.

In this article the author discusses how to build a relationship between the formal architectural education and the informal situations about “instances of kayıtdışı”. Kayıtdışı (off the record) is an informal collective which is created by the students and associate professors of Yildiz Technical University. A collective that tries to find different ways of seeping into the formal education by using its potentials and searches for the possible outputs when those potentials are used variously. In this context kayıtdışı organizes some events. The main event is the designweek which includes workshops, lectures, night events and parties that all related to a chosen theme. The first designweek organised in 2008 with the theme of “non-place”; and “liminal” as the second one. More than 400 participants, tutors and lecturers from different disciplines (sociology, architecture, urban planning, cinema, photography, computational art…) highlight the interdisciplinary side of kayıtdışı which makes it more significant. Kayıtdışı intends to break unicentral design penetration by transforming it into an epidemic which spreads underneath of our building habits. Our activities will be continued.

mimarlık eğitimde nefes noktaları : “kayıtdışı deneyimi”

“Mimarist Dergisi
Sayı 33 Güz 2009
Syf. 83-84-85″

Her sene gittikçe yayılıp, doğru yöne doğru olduğunu sandığımız solunum sistemimizin yollarını karıştırıp, bambaşkakılcallardan dışarı çıkmak için uğraşacak, diğer vücutlara karışacaktır.

Eylemlerimiz devam edecektir.

We should admit the patterns which creates Istanbul’s the purest and the most realistic appearance that not far form the vision of “luxury” and “memorized” but not some freak creatures. Therefore the systems form their own rules. In this manner, to testify some real components of Istanbul that we can follow these systems’traces may be useful to specify the rules of the system. If these rules are decomposed into some constructive projections by the vector of time, this will contribute to development of this area and improve some application strategies that offer some powerful utilization that structurally simple. The area that we chose according to this idea model and the real components that we specified take place in Gürsel Street in Kagithane town. An application example is to be determined.

IN 2050
IN ISTANBULWATER WILL RISE 1 METER MORE
THE TEMPERATURE WILL RISE 12C IN WINTER
THE AIR POLLUTION WILL REACH TO ITS MAXIMUM

By making a foresight about future, we should see how we may find ourselves in some bad conditions day by day, in the manner of covering of our daily needs. We, as the individuals who perceive this situation partially earlier, should focus on our productions to improve an open sourced consciousness machine rather than self-contained solutions.

What is a consciousness machine?
In short: A system that is alive, self-supporting and relieved from the memorized construction in densely used centers by its context, form and usage. It wasn’t there yesterday, today it is here, tomorrow a similar one will be there and later on more will be somewhere else. When these buildings’ visibility become more obvious and “the man on the street” will be clear for the special components of the system, it may be produced and applied tohouses, apartments by everyone.
